Ed (has SSAGOne to space and back!) Knight

Hi SSAGO - I'm Ed, our Secretary for 2025/26

I've been in Scouting since Beavers and gone through all the sections, enjoying Beavers so much that I went back as a Young (and now adult) Leader! I've got Beaver units in Chester (home) and Birmingham (uni), and hopefully soon another in Bristol (placement)! Outside of leading I've done an Explorer Belt and took a patrol to Roverway 2024, and am on a bit of a lifelong mission to become a Useful Person.

I've been BUSAG's Chair for the last year and am on SSAGOes to Space Rally committee, and have had a great time with both! You might recognise me from wandering around with a womble painted on my face at Midlands Freshers 2023, 5 wombles stuffed into my belt at Oktoberfest Rally, or a big cardboard rocket costume on at Team Pink Rally! Also, someone from your club has probably stolen Bungo (the BUSAG chair's mascot) from me at some point...

I'm about to begin a placement year down in Bristol, but normally can be found in Birmingham doing aerospace engineering (and wishing I was doing materials science instead!)
Come and say hi if you see me at rally!

February 2026

Report

  • SSAGOes to Space Rally: we ran Rally! And it went pretty well too, I'd say. I had an amazing time running it and would do it again in a heartbeat (look for my name on a rally bid coming soon!). We've finished up our accounts and I've been helping with getting some final things closed off before Port-A-Rally.
  • Reps: another Rally, another Reps! The website is live and our policy changes are currently sat with Policy Fixers for review before I upload them to https://www.ssago.org/resources/reps-meetings/2026/2026-03
  • General Team Pink: another chance for me to rhapsodise about how much I love being on Pink! I'm really going to miss it next year, even with some of the less-fun aspects of Pink that we've had to deal with recently it's really good knowing that we're always there as a team and supporting one another. Our meeting minutes are all up to date on the website, and hopefully by Reps our next meeting agenda will also be live.
  • Annual Report: I've procrastinated this a lot...but it's slowly getting there and is going to be better than ever! I want to make it interesting and something that people actually read, so if anyone has things that they'd like to see in it, please let me know!
  • Policy Updates: we've got a few smaller updates for this Reps, and I've been getting involved with helping make those changes ahead of sending them to Policy Fixers
  • SSAGO First Aid Kit: I've sorted through the SSAGO first aid kit, restocking it and adding to what we keep in it, and doing a lot of tidying so that it's clearer where everything in it is, when you're looking, as it was a bit of a mess before. I've also created crib briefing emails for future Rally committees to make sure that first aiders have all of the information that they need to safely support the people on site, and worked with Abi and the rest of Pink to select and buy a defibrillator (which will hopefully arrive at my house in time for Rally)

Aims

  • Handover: I've got a lot of work to do ahead of handover, as the Secretary Holy Book (the role's handover doc) has become a mess of comments and highlighted areas over the last year as I've picked up on things in it that are out of date and unclear. As I get ready to hand off the role to my successor I'm hoping I can leave those parts of it a bit clearer!
  • SSAGO Forms (and Resources Restructure): before handing over, I want to finish converting all of SSAGO's forms into Google Forms to make them more easily updated, and keep all of their responses in one place. I'm also sick of things in the Resources area of the website not being where I think they should be, so I'm going to rearrange a load of things (including making a public factsheet register) - you may have noticed that this Reps' documents are all in a different location to where they've been in the past!
  • Annual Report: I really need to finish this...it'll be worth the wait when you get to read it though! Please read it! It'll be the first Annual Report published since the 2022/23 one and hopefully the first of a string of many more.
  • Make Rex a pirate costume: what it says on the tin, really! After equipping him with my committee doodleyboppers at SSAGOes to Space Rally, I feel like he needs a costume for Port-A-Rally as well!

October 2025

Report

  • SSAGOes to Space Rally: I've been pretty busy making publicity material for SSAGOes to Space Rally, which you've hopefully seen and appreciated! I had far too much fun with the theming of the website. Hopefully you're having a good time at Rally!
  • Factsheets: I've updated the Welcome Pack for new members, and sent it to Undeb Bangor (via Bangor BUGS) for translation so that hopefully, this time next year, we've got a Welsh Welcome Pack!
  • Assistant Recruitment: I did quite a bit of the admin for choosing our new Liaisons Officer and Charities Assistant appointments, including helping with all the interviews. I'm really looking forward to working with the people we've appointed!
  • Minutes and Agendas and Other Stuff In That Vein: I've been doing plenty of fast typing (and then rereading to fix my typos) in Team Pink meetings, and getting minutes uploaded to https://www.ssago.org/resources/minutes/2025/executive in good time!
  • Reps: I figured out how to set up Reps! And am having so much fun with writing this, I've got a bit too stuck into this section and need to remember to write some Aims as well
  • Emails/Actions Tracking: remember those spreadsheets I mentioned in my June report? Yeah, I've sort of dropped those. I've switched to a .doc based way of tracking and it's much easier to keep on top of and is workinng well

Aims

  • SSAGOes to Space Rally: hopefully, you've all had a stellar Rally so far! I'm going to keep up my enthusiasm through re-entry and recovery from our mission to Planet SSAGO and make sure that all my bits of post-rally admin get done in good time too
  • Reps: I'm going to relentlessly poke club Reps to vote in Reps so that we can hopefully hit quorum without a struggle, as we've not had great voting turnouts over the last few events and we've got a wad of policies to vote in! If you're reading this, kick your club Rep so that I don't have to please!
  • General Team Pink: keep enjoying myself as much as I am, and do better at my role if I can! Support the new/outgoing Assistants with handover where I can, and keep us all meeting regularly and getting you guys (our members) involved with our agendas
  • Annual Report: between now and Spring Reps (wow, that sounds like a long time in the future - it'll go like nothing though, I bet) I need to write the SSAGO Annual Report for Team Pink 2025/26! It looks like a bit of a giant task at the moment, but I'm sure once I get going with it I'll blitz through most of it (then procrastinate the last few sections for a while)

June 2025

Report

  • SSAGO exists: SSAGO has not imploded in the past few months, which feels like a good start!
  • Minutes and Agendas: I've been checking over and uploading Team Pink minutes and agendas to the website.
  • Email/actions tracking: I've created spreadsheets to help us keep on top of outstanding actions/emails we've received, and am doing my best to keep them updated!

Aims

  • Factsheets: over summer I want to reach out to Aber, Bangor BUGS and SUGS to find out if they'd want any particular factsheets translated into Welsh (and ask for their support in doing so)
  • More factsheets!: I want to work with Policy Fixers and the rest of Pink to overhaul some of our (very) dated factsheets
  • Reps: at time of writing, my next goal is to figure out how to set up Reps on the website. Hopefully by the time Reps comes around, I'll have figured this out though
